Playing the trumpet since age seven, music has been an integral part of her life ever since. She has performed in numerous bands, ensembles, and setups across the UK, including her own brass quintet, which was aired live on BBC Radio Merseyside. As a freelancer, Jess has played within both the brass band and orchestral worlds, locally and overseas. Most recently, she has enjoyed performing with her funk trio, The BlowBack Horns, in Liverpool’s pubs and clubs, delivering a their unique take on well-known covers.

Professionally, Jess has held roles with the Liverpool Philharmonic as Orchestra Coordinator and the Royal Northern College of Music as Placements Coordinator. These positions provided invaluable experience in the arts and events industry, including organizing international tours to Italy, Germany, China, and Japan, and working on large-scale events such as the BBC Proms and several festivals. At the RNCM, Jess led all industry placements, creating exciting projects for students with partners like the BBC Philharmonic, the National Youth Orchestra, various recording studios, and in numerous educational settings.

Jess has travelled extensively, sharing her passion for music by teaching in Mombasa, Kenya, before moving to Liverpool. Her more recent adventures have taken her as far as the vibrant city of New Orleans, the jungles of Costa Rica, and the beautiful landscapes of Colombia.

At Katumba, Jess is the Community Engagement and Programmes Coordinator, looking after all things members and community related! This includes helping to design and develop the learning programme and Katumba’s educational projects. Jess has always been very passionate about fostering inclusive environments that empower individuals through creativity, collaboration, and (of course) MUSIC!
