Ritchie Tunstall is Co-Founder, Musical and Artistic Director of Katumba
Drumming since the age of 8, professionally playing for twenty years and teaching for over a decade; Ritchie is renowned for producing quality drum troops all over the world.
Gaining a BA Hons in Music (Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, LIPA), Ritchie’s CV ranges from composing and performing for the Sugarbabes, to supplying drummers for sporting organisations such as Wembley Stadium, Rugby Federation, the Football Association (FA) and teams including Liverpool, Everton and Manchester United, plus large corporations including Google and BT.
His passion for both innovative music and community development is recognised nationally and internationally, where his ability to foster a family feeling within any group has taken him to deliver workshops across Europe, Brazil, the Caribbean and Palestine.
Ritchie’s teaching history also spans a decade as a Yamaha Kit Instructor, and founder of the Liverpool Drum Academy.
In 2005 he also founded former Batala Liverpool, and became Musical Director of Batala UK.
Keen to create his own drumming troupe with an inclusive and ethical ethos, he co-founded Katumba with Juliana in 2015.
As Musical Director, Ritchie composes the majority of Katumba’s original songs and arrangements, and leads on all musical and production elements of our performances, from street to stadium.
