Cycle into the future, warn beings from Future Earth during their much heralded visitation to our time this Saturday from 7pm on Liverpool’s Bold Street.

In keeping with the theme of climate crisis at this Saturday’s Katumba Halloween Carnival, we shine a light on cycling by giving it centre stage at Saturday’s much anticipated visitation by the strange beings from the future – the last humans to exist on a ravaged planet Earth – who will be returning to us for one night only with a terrifying warning: our planet DESTROYED.

Radical community-centred cycling co-operative Peloton’s Joy Ride crew will be seen heading up the parade, creating intrigue and carving out space for bikes in the new world where we manage to divert ourselves AWAY from the destruction that otherwise awaits.

This year, together we explore a crucial narrative: the perils we and our planet face, Carnival style!

In pride of place will be the much loved, electronically mesmerising, psychedelia-infused and sustainably-powered trike + LED lighting installation known as the #pelotonperformanceplatform, which emerged out of an unholy union between the Peloton’s Joy Ride crew and Kazimier Garden and Invisible Wind Factory favourites Dog Show.

The Last Joy Riders

Add to that the LED breastplates that take high visibility to an other-worldly level, worn by the Joy Riders and designed by DoES Liverpool’s electronics genius Adrian McEwen, plus a critical mass of illuminated cyclist followers, and you have one of the ten Tribes that will be descending upon us at the Carnival parade – the Last Joy Riders.

Introducing The Peloton

A leading light of Liverpool’s thriving cycling sub-culture, Peloton founder Daniel Robinson is the arch daemon of cycling, constantly creating new ways for children, elders, parents, students and mutual support groups to enjoy and thrive as cyclists.

The six projects under the Peloton umbrella so far, including the bicycle-based delivery service Agile, BMX Box and Cycling Without Age, create community, connection and meaningful moments, and promote physical and mental health.

There is no one better to bring the wilder side of wheels to the Carnival, to celebrate these life-supporting and planet-kind machines and to show our visitors from the future that we do at least understand how important it is that we get on our bikes.

Come and catch some photon energy from the most epic party trike you will ever encounter, and if you fancy free-wheeling with the Joy Ride crew afterwards, you can join in one of their bi-monthly night rides through the city.

We are so excited to have the Joy Riders join our parade team this year as one of our tribes from the future.

To see them in action, and meet the other nine tribes who will be lavishing their terrifyingly beguiling and arresting performances onto us this Saturday, check out our Introducing the Tribes reel, presented below and also available for viewing and sharing across our social channels.

Fair warning! You have now had a glimpse of the ten tribes that make up the Last Humans on Our Planet.

Come and heed their warning – and be part of the RITUAL OF CARNIVAL that is at beginning of RADICAL CHANGE FOR THE BETTER!
