Katumba’s epic band of Drumming Santas will complete a THREE HOUR NON-STOP DRUMATHON for UNICEF’s Children of Gaza Crisis Appeal
Help us raise much needed aid as part of our Drumathon at this year’s Liverpool Santa Dash.
On Sunday December 3, we will be drumming for a staggering three hours straight during the Santa Dash in a bid to raise as much money as we possibly can for UNICEF’s Children of Gaza Crisis Appeal.
You can help by donating here, and if you are a registered Santa taking part in the Dash, you can fundraise for our team via our JustGiving page here.
Why Gaza?
Hundreds of thousands of children are affected by the violent conflict between Palestinian occupied territory and Israel.
An unrelenting bombardment of Gaza followed the brutal attacks in Israel on the 7 October.
Violence is taking a terrible toll on the lives of children and families.
Whilst Israel has strong emergency and health services, people in Gaza are severely lacking food, water, electricity and medicine.
Homes and critical infrastructure lie in ruins.
According to latest reports, more than 11,000 people have died, including 4,650 children – and over 20,000 are injured.
Is aid getting to those in need?
Despite the dangerous humanitarian and security situation, UNICEF is helping to deliver life-saving supplies, including medicines and clean water, as well as mental health support.
With the situation rapidly deteriorating, UNICEF urgently needs our help to reach more children and families.
Katumba Founders Juliana and Ritchie in Palestine, where they worked with young refugees putting together their first street carnival.
Juliana says, “It was so powerful, bringing back to the very origins of carnival in Brazil when oppressed communities took to the streets being loud, taking space and expressing themselves.
And at the same time very sad hearing the stories, and seeing first hand the situation they were in.”

RACE START: 9.30am
The Liverpool Santa Dash is the biggest and longest established Santa Run in the UK and in just the second year (back in 2005) achieved Guinness World Record status for the Biggest Santa Gathering.
The 5K fun run starts at the magnificent Pier Head in front of the famous Liver Building and by 9.30am the whole of the public space is completely full of Santas, many bedecked in traditional red with some blue among the mass crowd.
The 5K route flows through the city centre passing through the Royal Albert Dock and back along the main waterfront roads before turning into the tightly packed streets to finish in front of the Town Hall.
Runners are encouraged along the way by a keen crowd plus the high energy beats and joy of the Katumba drummers all dressed in their seasonal Santa outfits, as well as being greeted with giant Christmas characters and treated to a flurry of snow right on the finish line.
Liverpool’s Santa Dash kicks off the Christmas season for thousands of Scousers and has a wonderful Christmassy atmosphere for all the family to enjoy.
It even includes a 1K Mini Dash for under 12s which happens straight after the main 5K.
