World Social Justice Day: why individual actions matter

Social justice remains of course, an absolutely massive area of development for human kind.

The United Nations named 20 February the World Day of Social Justice in order to give focus to their work in re-building trust in governments, by ‘unleashing opportunities for social justice’.

Well that all sounds amazing but as we know, governments must be constantly held to account.

The social contract between governments and the people they serve is often compromised by the complex layerings of inequalities, corruptions and weakened institutions.

At Katumba we recognize the vastness of the task at hand in overcoming barriers to social justice.

Poverty and inequalities between nations of the world, and within them, are in some instances, sadly on the rise, exacerbated by the consequences of the Covid 19 pandemic, natural disasters due to climate change, geopolitical tensions and armed conflicts.

But we also believe that the individual steps taken every day by people and organisations is of great bearing to the whole.

We have to believe it is so.

Therefore with every attempt to serve social justice around us with what we do, and the ways in which we create access to it for all, we fight inequality and injustice, by our very existence.

So do not lose heart. Join us if you can, to look after your Self, and Others. Looking after yourself and others, care-taking of people and planet, are part of the fight.
